As you move up the ladder of career as a leader, the weighty demands of the solutions to be rendered becomes more intense, it is vital you conserve your strength levels on what matters.
I guess you would ask the obvious question. What really matters?
1. Your conservation of your strength could start from how you talk. When you talk too much, your energy level are almost gone before the day is half spent. Many years ago, I performed a simple experiment of making each of the words of my mouth count for a solution. In other words, trying to communicate as effective as possible, with few words. I found out, that the propensity to do more work when you talk less is quite high.
2. You conserve your mental strength, by identifying distractions or minor issues. Be kind to yourself enough to learn the act of delegating these kinds of issues and focus on the big issues that would affect your business the most, as a leader. You can leverage on Pareto 80-20 principle!
3. Conserve your physical strength and renew it by engaging healthy exercise and kill fruitless journeys which has no/little business value gotten from it. The litmus test for such journeys is to ask yourself: what would this journey add to the bottom line of the organization? Would it be a strategic journey for the next 5 - 10 years which help leverage partnership in the future? Would it enhance business relationships between my organization and potential clients? Would it be an enhance experience for my employees to improve their work ethics, skills and provide a springboard to retain this experience across the organization? Can I measure the impact of this journey on overall value chain? If yes, how much is it worth be it qualitative or quantitative?
4. When work time is fulfilled, please conserve your health, by shutting the computer when required and not replacing the computer with another screen that could be your phone or your tablet in a work-related mode. It counts on your head, not as productivity but as stress and one day, your health report would agree.
5. Conserve your spirituality, by setting out time for prayers and deep meditation.
